Is Europe really plunged into darkness?( If France do not get uranium from Niger) !!!!!!
is Europe really plunged into darkness?
56 nuclear power plants in France depend on
uranium from Niger. On the other hand, several European countries are dependent
on France's electricity. Will Niger's new government completely stop uranium
exports to France? Niger's former prime minister and opposition leader Hama
Amadu doesn't think so. In his view, the government of General Abdorrahmane
Tiani has not yet stopped the export of uranium to France and will not do so in
the future.
According to the Euratom Supply Agency, France got a fifth of its total uranium from Niger last year. However, the country is not in trouble, as it also receives significant amounts of uranium from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.
Alex Vines of Chatham House, a London-based think tank, said Niger was France's third largest uranium supplier last year. According to the World Nuclear Association, Niger accounted for only 5% of the uranium sold worldwide in 2022.
The question is, if France doesn't get one-fifth of the uranium it needs for the year from their former colony, if the world doesn't get that 5% from there, will there be a big disaster? Lack of electricity will fall in the dark in Europe?
Dismissing those fears, European Commission spokesman Adalbert Yance said, “Enough uranium is now on the world market to meet medium and short-term needs. With that, the needs of Europe can be met.
